A wee bit of chat: what’s going on?

Hiya! I’m Emily Rhodes — born and bred in bonnie Inverness, right in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. It was pure magic growing up here. Imagine waking up each morning to rolling green hills and the crisp Highland air!

I come from a tight-knit wee family: Mum, Dad, and my younger sister. Dad was a mechanic, and Mum worked part-time at the local library. We didn’t have much, but there was always a hot meal on the table and a cosy bed waiting for us at night.

Mum reckons I got my love of tech from Dad’s side. But truth be told, it was that dusty old computer corner in the library that really hooked me. I’d tag along to Mum’s work during the holidays, and while she shelved books, I’d spend hours tapping away on those ancient machines.

School had its fair share of ups and downs. I’ll admit maths wasn’t my strong suit. But the teachers were quick to spot that I had a knack for computers and tech, and they encouraged me to run with it.

After college, I packed up and moved to Edinburgh to study computer science at uni. It was a massive shift from the quiet pace of Inverness, but I loved every second of it.

I made great pals, stayed up late debugging code, and even took on a few side projects between lectures to earn a bit of extra cash. It was hectic at times, aye, but all the better for it.

Technology has always felt like this vast, open world, full of endless things to explore. And that sense of discovery? It’s what keeps me coming back.
